Web Hosting Frequently Asked Questions |
Do you support anything other than PHP and MySQL-based CMSes?
At this time, we support all systems listed at www.opensourcecms.com. Applications that require other programming languages may run on your account, but cannot be installed by our engineers for you. If you are unsure about a particular application or CMS, please submit a support ticket so that we can investigate for you.
What Content Managers do you support?
We explicitly support any system shown at www.opensourcecms.com. If you need something installed that is not shown at opensourcecms.com, simply submit a support ticket and we will make every effort to install it for you. Most PHP and MySQL based software can be installed on our web hosting accounts by our engineers.
Will you install a component or module for me?
In many cases we are able to install components and modules at your request. However, some modules may require complex modifications to your code to function -- our engineers can give you more details if you submit a support ticket describing exactly what you need to have installed.
Will you upgrade my CMS for me?
In most cases, we can upgrade content managers that were installed by our staff if a newer version is released. However, if you have customized or edited the code for the software, or if you have added many 3rd party components/modules/blocks or modifications, you may need to manually upgrade the software by hand. Please submit a support ticket and our engineers can evaluate your specific situation for you.

Do you support International Domains such as .co.uk, .ar, .ch etc?
Yes, we can host any valid country extension as long as your registrar allows you to change the name servers for the domain to point to the ones provided by us.
How do I set up an addon domain?
Before setting up an addon domain it is recommended that you change the name server information for the addon domain first. The name server information for the addon domain should be changed to the same as your main domain. If you don't know what the name servers should be changed to then please contact support.
After you change the nameserver information please wait 24 hours for the information to propagate across the Internet. Once the 24 hours have passed then set up the addon domain. Please view the Video Tutorial regarding addon domains for a step by step tutorial.
It is not mandatory to change the name servers and wait 24 hours before creating the addon domain. If you do this though the domain will be ready immediately after you set it up.
I want to get started right away but my domain name hasn't updated to point to your servers yet.
As per directions provided in your welcome email, you can upload via FTP directly to the server IP address using your username and password.
However, we DO NOT recommend installing any CMS or content software until after your domain has propagated. If you do so then your software may not function as intended after the domain has propagated.
As a general policy we will not install any CMS software for you until the domain has propagated. Our years of experience have shown that it is better to install the software after the domain has propagated.
We can, and do, make exceptions as long as the client understands that the system may not function as inteneded until the domain has propagated.
What are your name servers?
Our nameservers are: ns1.opensourcehost.com and ns2.opensourcehost.com
Can I check my email using my browser?
Yes; every hosting account includes Webmail, which is accessable at http://www.yoursitedomain.com/webmail/. Be sure to log in using your full email address (including the @ and your domain name) and your mailbox password.
Can I run an email-based discussion list on my account?
Yes; the Mailman mailing list software is included in every hosting package. This software allows you to create a discussion group via email.
Can my MX record be changed so that mail is directed to an off-site server?
Yes; please submit a support ticket describing your situation (along with any MX record that you need to have set) and our engineers would be happy to assist you.
Do you allow me to send out unsolicited messages?
No - we have a very strict anti-spam policy. Please do not use our mail servers to send out newsletters or unsolicited messages of any kind. Accounts that are found to be advertising via email or sending large volumes of email may be suspended.
Does e-mail on the server count towards my allotted space?
Yes, all files and email messages in your account are counted toward your overall disk usage.
How can I create email accounts?
Our Video Tutorial center includes videos on adding an email account to your hosting plan via the cPanel interface. Once you have created an email account, it can be added to your email client so that messages are downloaded to your computer. Be sure to select "POP3" as the server type, and enter mail.yoursitedomain.com as the incoming mail server; the username to use when connecting is your full email address (including @yoursitedomain.com). Please use your ISP's outgoing mail server for best results when sending email.
What is my "master" POP3 account?
When your account is created, a master POP3 account is set-up by default. This account is username@yoursitedomain.com and this name cannot be changed.
In your Control Panel, you will notice that this POP3 account is "locked". This means you cannot delete it. To change the password you need to change your control panel password (as the two are linked).
