Return to "FTP Client Setup"CuteFTP is a file transfer protocol (FTP) application used for managing files and folders on your web server. Your FTP credentials are sent to you when you first signed up for your web server. Once you establish a connection to your server, the files and folders on your server are displayed in the box to the right-hand side. With CuteFTP, you are able to create new directories, rename files and folders, as well as change the permissions on the files and folders or remove them. To create a new directory:
• Click on the new folder icon from the tool bar (it looks like a folder with a red asterisk)
• Give the folder a name and click “OK”
• The folder will appear in the directory that is currently listed in the right hand box
Files and folders can also be renamed by right clicking (ctrl+click on a Mac) on the folder or files’ name and selecting “Rename”. To delete a file or folder, left click on its name and select the red “X” from the toolbar. To view the file, highlight the file by clicking on it, and then select the list icon from the toolbar. Permissions on a file or folder are changed by:
• Selecting the file or folder with a left click
• Click “Commands” from the top bar and hover over “File Actions”
• Select “CHMOD” to pull up the permissions dialogue box
• Check the permissions you would like the file or folder to have and click “Ok”
