Protecting your Email from Spam and Viruses

The topic of this article is supported in its entirety by our customer support department.

OpenSourceHost’s Email Defense Service allows you to protect your email box from spam and virus threats. Using Email Defense, your email messages are scanned for known viruses and common spam messages before the mail even reaches your mailbox. You receive only the important email messages that you need, along with a single daily “quarantine report” email that lists the messages that have been caught by the filter. The “quarantine report” email allows you to preview the spam messages that were blocked, as well as click a link to allow the message to come through to you. By reviewing this daily email, you can be assured that no important email messages have been incorrectly blocked.

You can manage Email Defense from within the My Products section of your Customer Manager.

Email Defense must be enabled for each user before their mail will begin being filtered; follow these steps to manage the users under your Email Defense account.

You will need to access the Email Defense product details to begin:

  • Log in to the Customer Manager at https://my.opensourcehost.com, then click on the Products tab at the top if you are not automatically redirected to your primary product details page.

Adding users:

  • Click the “View Details” link beside the account you are working with from the My Products page, then click “Spam & Virus Protection for your Email“
  • Select the check-box for each user that you would like to add
  • Click continue to confirm and place the order

  • Please note that when Email Defense is added to the first email user for your account, it can take up to 24 hours for the filtering service to begin processing mail. This is due to an automatic MX record update that must be made to direct email through the Email Defense servers.

    Removing users:

    • Click on the Manage your Email Defense Users link
    • Select the check-box for the user to remove
    • Click on Remove Selected Users

Please note that if you remove the Email Defense protection from all of your email users, you will need to change your MX record back to “yoursitedomain.com.” to prevent disruption of your email service.
