Return to "DNS & Domain Registration"
The topic of this article is supported in its entirety by our customer support department.
When you are planning to update the DNS records for your account, keep the following items in mind to prevent any problems:
- You cannot change the “main A record” for your account; that is, you cannot change yoursitedomain.com to point to another IP. You can add or change sub domain records like www.yoursitedomain.com and mail.yoursitedomain.com, but you cannot change where the main domain with no prefix is pointed.
- You cannot add or edit a record for a specific virtual host. Each virtual host shares the DNS Records with the main site, so removing or adding a record on the main site will affect all virtual hosts.
- DNS changes do take a few hours to update. Most of this time is spent waiting for nameservers world wide to check our system for updates, which is not a process that can be sped up in any way. Please keep this in mind when making changes; if your changes are not correct, the corrections could take hours to be picked up.
It is recommended that you contact the OpenSourceHost Customer Support department before making DNS changes so that we may assist you and prevent any possible errors.
