Forwarding Misdirected Mail with a Catch-All Alias

The topic of this article is not supported by our customer support department, however for your convenience we are providing this material to assist you in troubleshooting potential issues related to this topic.

A catch-all email alias is used to capture any emails that are sent to email addresses that are not specifically created on your account. This is useful for receiving email that is sent to misspelled

If you plan on using a catch-all, keep in mind that this email address will receive a high volume of spam which cannot be filtered by Email Defense. Only use a catch-all if you are regularly checking the email address that it is associated with, and if you understand the risk of increased spam when using a catch-all. Most users will not need to set up a catch-all email address.

To enable the catch-all alias:

Log in to your VDS Manager by clicking the ‘Login to VDS Manager’ link from the Products page of the Customer Manager, which is located at https://my.opensourcehost.com.

Click on Aliases on the left

Click on

Click Catch-All as the alias type.

Enter the email address that the catch-all should forward to under ‘Destination’. You can select from an existing email address @yoursitedomain.com using the Local Email drop-down.

click

Another thing to note with catch-all aliases is that if you are sending them to an off-network email address, there is a possibility that the host for the destination email address (such as AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, etc) may start blocking your email or take other actions if you are receiving too much email.
