There are 2 primary steps to creating a Majordomo mailing list: installing Majordomo, and creating a mailing list with MajordomoList.
Installing Majordomo
Log in to your VDS Manager by clicking the ‘Login to VDS Manager’ link from the Products page of the Customer Manager, which is located at https://my.opensourcehost.com.
Click on Install & Manage on the left side of the screen.
Click on the
Colaboration folder at the top of the page
Click on
Majordomo under the Available ValueApps section on the left
Agree to the license
Click the
button
Creating a Mailing List with MajordomoList
Log in to your VDS Manager by clicking the ‘Login to VDS Manager’ link from the Products page of the Customer Manager, which is located at https://my.opensourcehost.com.
Click on Install & Manage on the left side of the screen.
Click on the
Colaboration folder at the top of the page
Click on
Majordomo List under the Available ValueApps section on the left
Agree to the license
Enter the following information:
- Majordomo List Name - Enter a name for the mailing list that is all lower-case with no spaces. It cannot be the same as an existing email address, alias, or mailing list
- Majordomo List Description - Enter a description for the mailing list
- New Password - Enter a password between 6 - 8 characters long. Valid characters are only printable ASCII characters
- Retype Password - Re-enter the password exactly
- Moderated List - If selected, all postings to the mail list will be bounced to the moderator for approval
You can choose to enter the following information or leave the defaults.
- Subscribe Policy - Select your subscribe policy.
- Open + Confirm - Allows people to subscribe without moderators approval, but subscriber must respond to a confirmation email before being added
- Open - Allows people to subscribe without moderators approval
- Closed - Requires moderator to approve any addition to the list
- Closed + Confirm - Moderator must approve any additions to the list and subscriber must respond to a confirmation email before being added
- Auto - Enables any person to subscribe any other person to the list
- Auto +Confirm - Sends confirmation email to the subscriber, which he/she must reply to before being added
- Unsubscribe Policy - Select your unsubscribe policy
- Open + Confirm - Allows people to unsubscribe without moderators approval, but subscriber must respond to a confirmation email before being removed
- Open - Allows people to unsubscribe without moderators approval
- Closed - Requires moderator to approve any deletion from the list
- Closed + Confirm - Moderator must approve any deletions from the list and subscriber must respond to a confirmation email before being removed
- Auto - Enables any person to unsubscribe any other person to the list
- Auto + Confirm - Sends confirmation email to the subscriber, which he/she must reply to before being unsubscribed
Click the
button.
For each of the commands, select one of the following or leave the defaults.
- Open - Enables anyone access to the command
- Closed - Completely disables the command
- List - Enables only distribution list members access to the command
- Get Access - Enables access to files
- Index Access - Enables access to file names associated with specific majordomo distribution list
- Info Access - Enables access to the distribution list description
- Intro Access - Enables access to the Majordomo help files
- Which Access - Enables your subscribers to see what list their email address is subscribed to
- Who Access - Enables your subscribers to view the email addresses of everyone on the list
Click the
button
Now that you have your list created, you are ready to begin using it by sending email to the list.
