Return to "Web Based Email"
The topic of this article is supported in its entirety by our customer support department.
NeoMail is a web-based email client made for checking email directly from your web browser, which is conveniant if you are away from your primary computer. Please note that NeoMail should only be used if you have trouble with Webmail, which is now the primary web-based email client. NeoMail is still offered as older customers may prefer using it, but it is not recommended to new customers due to its relative lack of features compared to Webmail.
Installing NeoMail on your VDS
The first step is to install NeoMail through your VDS Manager
Log in to your VDS Manager by clicking the ‘Login to VDS Manager’ link from the Products page of the Customer Manager, which is located at https://my.opensourcehost.com.
Click on Install & Manage on the left
Click the
Neomail ValueApp icon in the Available ValueApps list
Agree to the license.
You will then be prompted to enter the following:
Important Note: You cannot simply enter 0 or 999999 for each choice or NeoMail will not function correctly. Our recommended values are based on testing of NeoMail, and are set to accommodate most NeoMail users without slowing NeoMail down.
- Language - Select a language
- Max Address Book Size - This is the maximum size (in KB) that a user’s address book can grow to. The recommended value is 10000
- Folder Quota - This setting limits the amount of mail that can be saved in user-created folders. This setting does not affect the inbound mail service, it simply prevents saved mail from growing too large for NeoMail to efficiently handle. The recommended value is 100000
- Attachment Limit - This is the limit on the size of outgoing attachments (in MB), and should be set no higher than 4 to prevent your web browser from crashing when sending an attachment. The recommended value is 4
- Session Timeout - This indicates how much time (in minutes) can pass before a session is considered timed out and the user needs to login again. Make sure this is big enough that a user typing a long message won’t get logged out automatically while typing. The recommended value is 30
- Number of Headers - This indicates the maximum number of headers to display to a user at a time. Keep this number reasonable to ensure fast load times for slow connection users. The recommended value is 10

Important Note: Since NeoMail is not designed for full time use, we recommend deleting any mail that comes in and is not needed, as large amounts of mail can degrade the systems performance. Be sure to regularly empty the trash folder in NeoMail to prevent the loss of email due to corrupted mail folders.
