Using Outlook Express to Check Email

Outlook Express is a simple email program that is included with many versions of Windows. OpenSourceHost VDS Hosting accounts support Outlook Express, as well as the full versions of Outlook.

To configure Outlook Express:

First, open Outlook Express

Click the Tools menu at the top of the screen

Click on Accounts...
Select Mail

In the new dialog box, click the Mail tab and click Add

In the Display name field, enter the name that people will see when they receive email from you.

Click Next

In the email address field, enter your email address

Click Next

Enter the following information:

  • My incoming mail server is a - Select POP3
  • Incoming mail server: Enter: mail.yoursitedomain.com
  • Outgoing mail server: Enter: mail.yoursitedomain.com

Important Note: If you are having problems sending email, you may need to contact your ISP and use their outgoing email server instead.
Click Next

Enter the username and password that you selected when you created the email account.

Click Next

Important Note: If you are on a Name BasedVDS, or a name-based resold account, you will need to use the username in the format username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting.

Click Finish to return to the main Outlook Express window
