Using Eudora to Check Email

Eudora is a popular email client that is compatable with OpenSourceHost’s VDS Web Hosting sevice. Versions of Eudora are available for both Windows and the Macintosh.

Eudora for Windows

Open Eudora

Go to the Tools pull-down menu and select Options.

In the popup box, enter the following information:

  • Real name - Enter your real name
  • Return address - Enter the email address of an account which you have already created through your VDS Manager
  • Mail Server (Incoming) - Enter mail.yoursitedomain.com
  • Login Name - Enter the username for the email account

Important Note: If you are on a Name BasedDS, or a name-based resold account, you will need to use the username in the format username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting.

  • SMTP - Enter your outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.yoursitedomain.com

Important Note: If you are having problems sending email, you may need to contact your ISP and use their outgoing mail server.
Click on Checking Mail

Important Note: The Mail Server and Login Name fields should be autofilled with the information from the previous screen.
Check the Save Password checkbox

Important Note: In the “Secure Sockets when Receiving” dropdown menu, make sure “Never” is selected.
Click OK


Eudora for Macintosh

Open Eudora

Go to the Special pull-down menu and select Settings
In the popup box, enter the following information:

  • Username - Enter the username for the email account

Important Note: If you are on a Name Based VDS or a name-based resold account, you will need to use the username in the format username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting.

  • Mail Server (Incoming) - Enter mail.yoursitedomain.com
  • Real name - Enter your real name
  • SMTP - Enter your outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.yoursitedomain.com

Important Note: If you are having problems sending email, you may need to contact your ISP and use their outgoing mail server.

  • Return address - Leave blank

Click on Checking Mail

Important Note: The Mail Server and Login Name fields should be autofilled with the information from the previous screen.
Check the Save password checkbox

Important Note: On the SSL Section make sure the dropdown menus have “None” selected for POP and SMTP.

Click OK
