If viewers of your site receive a security warning dialog, there are four important things to check:
- Be sure that you have properly installed your certificate. If you have simply installed the OpenSSL ValueApp but have not ordered a certificate from OpenSourceHost or purchased and installed your own certificate, viewers will get an error indicating that you are using a temporary certificate.
- Check that your certificate has not expired. If it has expired, you can submit an order to purchase a new SSL certificate from your customer manager. Most browsers will let you view the certificate details, which shows the expiration date. SSL certificates are generally valid one year from the date that they are purchased.
- When ordering a certificate, an email is sent to the administrative contact listed on the domain name; be sure to check this email address for any confirmation emails that need to be responded to.
- Be sure that you are using the correct secure URL. If you ordered your certificate as http://www.yoursitedomain.com, viewers who enter https://yoursitedomain.com (without the www) will receive a warning message. You must ensure that all of the links on your site have the correct secure URL.
If you continue to have security warnings, please contact OpenSourceHost’s Customer Support team for further investigation.
