Using Thunderbird to Check Email

Thunderbird is a free email client, available for download at: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/. OpenSourceHost supports all versions of Thunderbird.

To configure Thunderbird for use with your OpenSourceHost POP email service:

Open Thunderbird

Click Edit

Click Account Settings

Click Add Account in the bottom left

Select Email Account

Click Next

Enter the following information:

  • Your Name - What you want your recipients to see
  • Email address -

Click Next

Select “POP"

  • Incoming server is mail.yoursitedomain.com
  • Outgoing server is mail.yoursitedomain.com

Important Note: If you are experiencing problems sending email, it may be necessary to contact your ISP and use their outgoing mail server.

Click Next

Incoming User Name - The username you set up for this account, aka the portion on the left of the @yoursitedomain.com in your email address.

Important Note: If you are on a Name Based VDS or a name-based resold account, you will need to use the username in the format username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting.

Click Next

Enter an Account name

Important Note: This can be anything, just a reminder of what this account is.
Click Next

Click

Now that Thunderbird is setup to use your domain’s mail server, you are ready to begin sending and receiving email using your OpenSourceHost account.
