Logging in to your Weblog
Once you have installed the Weblog ValueApp, you can login to it by going to http://yoursitedomain.com/blog/ and clicking on the “Log In” or “Site Admin” link in the sidebar (depending on which theme you have selected). The username to enter is admin, and the password is the one that you selected when you installed the ValueApp.
Working with the Weblog Admin
The Weblog admin area has seven major tabs at the top, each with a variety of sub-tabs to organize all of the management functions of your blog.
- Dashboard - This tab gives you a quick overview of your recent blog activity, as well as quick links to create a new post, page, or to manage your comments. Additionally, your blog statistics (such as number of posts) are shown on the Dashboard
- Write - This section allows you to make a new post in your blog, or a new static page.
- Write Post - Use this page to post an entry in your blog; each of these entries will be organized by date and shown in reverse chronological order.
- Write Page - This allows you to create a static page that is not included in the normal timeline view of your blog entries; this is useful for making an “about me” or other static content.
- Manage - This tab contains sections for editing and deleting pages and posts, organizing your posts into categories, and working with comments.
- Posts - This page allows you to search for particular posts, and has an edit and delete button for each post to modify or remove it from your blog.
- Pages - This subsection works much like the Manage Posts area, allowing you to edit and delete your static pages.
- Categories - This area lists all of your active categories and allows you to create and manage the categories that your pages and posts can be filed under.
- Comments - This subsection lists all of the comments that have been posted to your blog, and allows you to edit or delete them.
- Awaiting Moderation - This section lists comments that the system believes may be junk, keeping them hidden from the public page until they are approved here.
- Links - This tab lets you maintain the links that appear in the sidebar of your blog, which is a perfect place to link to other blogs or other areas of your website.
- Manage Links - Use this page to delete or edit your existing sidebar links
- Add Link - This page is where you can add a new link to the sidebar of your blog
- Link Categories - Using this area, you can sort your links into categories, which is useful when managing a large number of links to other blogs or websites.
- Presentation - This tab lists all of the available Weblog themes; just click on a new theme to change the way that your weblog appears to your visitors.
- Users - This tab allows you to modify your own profile and password, as well as add new authors to your blog
- Your Profile - Use this page to update your password or contact information that is attached to your blog posts
- Authors & Users - This area allows you to add a new user to your blog, and optionally give them access to create new blog posts.
- Options - This tab gives you access to configuration settings for your blog, such as the blog title and settings for blocking inappropriate comments.
- General - This area allows you to change the administrative email address, title, and description that are associated with your blog, as well as other advanced options.
- Writing - This subsection has options for formatting and display in the Write Post area of the Weblog admin.
- Reading - This subsection allows you to specify how many articles are displayed on your blog pages at a time
- Discussion - These options allow you to specify how comments are handled, as well as creating a list words that are now allowed in comments to prevent spam
- Sign Out (in the top right) - This link allows you to log out of the Weblog admin
- My Account (in the top right) - This link takes you directly to your profile page
- View Site (in the top left) - This link takes you directly to the public view of your Weblog
Removing Example Data
When you first login to your blog, you will notice that there is an example post, an example comment, and an example link already added into your blog. These are provided so that you can see exactly where information that you enter will appear on your public Weblog pages.
Once you are familiar with the Weblog ValueApp, you can remove these examples.
- To remove the example post, click on the Manage tab at the top of the Weblog admin page, then click on the Delete button next to the example post on the right
- To remove the example comment, click on the Manage link at the top of the screen, then the Comments sub-tab, and click on Delete Comment next to the example
- To remove our example link, click on the Links tab at the top of the admin page, then click on Delete next to the example on the right
